Darlene Helmer brings more than 35 years of experience as both an internal leader and external consultant across a wide range of healthcare specialties and in both private practice as well as academic and university-based venues. As Managing Consultant Darlene’s work focuses on, among other areas, anesthesia, ophthalmology and oral and maxillofacial specialties, as well as academic and university-based health systems. In this role she advises and supports clients in their efforts to maintain and increase their success in practice management and revenue cycle operational efficiency and effectiveness, including coding, documentation and billing matters.  

Prior to joining Granite GRC Darlene served as the Director of Revenue Cycle for the University of Maryland’s St. Joseph Medical Group, a physician practice plan with more than 130 providers. In this position she led a team of professionals supporting primary care, specialists and surgeons throughout Greater Baltimore, including responsibilities for developing and executing billing, credentialling, coding, compliance and auditing operations. Prior to working for the University of Maryland Darlene served as Vice President of Provider Education and Training with Anesthesia Business Consultants, a physician management services organization that provides comprehensive practice management services, including revenue-cycle-focused services, to anesthesiology clients across the country.   

Darlene has built her professional career successfully evaluating and improving medical practice operational efficiency, the quality and efficiency of operations, billing, credentialing, documentation, coding and compliance, including significantly improved AR collections. Her proven skills help clients navigate practice set-up, mergers and acquisitions, managed care contract negotiations, marketing, and building referral networks.
