LANCASTER, Pa., – Granite GRC Consulting experts Sheri Poe Bernard, Dr. Khush Singh and Donna Malone are presenting on critical topics for the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Their four hour workshop, titled “Risk Adjustment Roundtable with the Experts,” will cover major trends and key best practices in area of risk adjusted reimbursement, a type of managed care reimbursement that is used by organizations who participate in Medicare Advantage and similar reimbursement plans. As Medicare Advantage organizations have been named recent multi-billion-dollar fraud actions, the goal is to arm participants with an understanding of what regulators are focusing on, as well as practical knowledge of value-based care models and how to properly capture clinical care with this type of coding.
Sheri Poe Bernard, CCS-P, CPC, CRC, CDEO is a noted consultant, author, speaker and AAPC-approved instructor. She wrote the first and second edition of the American Medical Association’s reference guide to risk adjusted reimbursement, “Risk Adjustment Documentation & Coding,” and consults regularly with medical organizations of all sizes to establish or improve their approach to coding, documentation and compliance. She is also a nationally respected trainer within the field of medical coding, and a Managing Consultant at Granite GRC Consulting.
Donna Malone, CPC, CRC is also an AAPC-approved instructor. She has decades of experience in both teaching, coaching and leading risk adjustment coding efforts for providers at several large health insurance plans. She has also taught Medical Coding Certificate and Medical Office Administration courses and served as a professor at Massachusetts Bay Community College in Massachusetts. She is a Senior Consultant at Granite GRC Consulting.
Khush Singh, MD, MHA, CDIP, CPC, CRC, CPMA, CPCO is a trained clinician and an experienced healthcare management executive with more than 15 years of health information management (HIM) and CMS Managed Care (Medicare & Medicaid) regulatory experience. Singh has held many leadership roles including as a senior leader on risk adjustment teams at number of MA health plans, where he oversaw Medicare, Medicaid and commercial ACA risk adjustment efforts. He has also worked as a consultant providing physician practices with HCC coding education and quality and value-based care HIM expertise. Singh holds many AAPC certifications, including Certified Professional Coder (ICD-9 & ICD-10 proficient), Certified Professional Medical Auditor, Certified Risk Adjustment Coder and Certified Professional Compliance Officer. He is also a Senior Consultant at Granite GRC Consulting.
Colleen Gianatasio, CPC, CPC-P, CPMA, CRC, CPC-I will also join Granite GRC Consulting’s experts. She will present on the overlap between risk adjustment and quality measures, and how they can highlight areas where plans can achieve organizational efficiencies and better patient outcomes. Gianatasio is the President-elect of the AAPC National Advisory Board and the Director of Ambulatory CDQI for Mount Sinai Health Care Partners.
